Thank you once again Bill. The Wikipedia description states that gleba is initially white of which I am not certain. I had pressed open a smaller, more firm, specimen and the gleba was wet black. Also the gleba in the mature one was more inky grey than brown.
Could it perhaps be another Scleroderma species?
