Dear Madam,

I am also a non-botanist member. In fact I dare say we the non-botanist
members are doing much better than the most botanists in this group (Dear
botanist members, please do not get angry)! Without providing every detail,
without using any ruler, most of our botanist (including taxonomist)
members just submit a couple of images in order to get the species
identified. This kind of identification is possible only for known/common
species.

Also, I think even an authentic site can have wrongly identified species.
Our own group is an example (of course our moderators would tell you that
all species id gets correctly identified eventually ... it may even take a
couple of years though!).

Interestingly the site, "Catalogue of Life" draws its reference from KEW
database!

Now, something on *C. tomentosa* (L.) L. -

   - is it *C. tomentosa* (L.) L. or *C. tomentosa* (L.) Murr.
   <http://indiabiodiversity.org/species/show/8552> ?
   - check distribution of the taxon -
   http://www.biotik.org/india/species/c/calltome/calltome_en.html
   - please also check the above with GRIN -
   http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?420065#dist
   - GRIN <http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?420065#dist>
   says the species is native to China, yet China eflora
   <http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=105098#KEY-1-2>
   doesn't feature it!
   - FoI
   <http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Velvety%20Beauty%20Berry.html>
   doesn't care to provide author citation. instead it only copies from TPL
   <http://www.theplantlist.org/tpl1.1/record/kew-31012?ref=tpl1> or other
   sources!

However, biotik description
<http://www.biotik.org/india/species/c/calltome/calltome_en.html> will tell
you that the species I have submitted is not *C. tomentosa* (whatever it
may be!).

Thank you
Regards
