Dr Singh, Great to see a California native plant on this egroup! This was formerly Hemizonia pungens until Jepson Manual 2 revised it to Centromadia. One of the few flowering annuals during California's dry summers. I see it where I live in San Jose in Lake Cunningham Park. Must be handled with extreme care due to the spiny leaves, esp when it dries out.
