It was previously called Butea frondosa) *This is further divided into 2 varieties-* ***Butea monosperma* var. *monosperma*- the typical variety is the tree that we all see everywhere *Butea monosperma* var.* lutea*- yellow flowered * Butea* **The white flowered Butea is NOT raised to any variety level and should be considered just an aberration or variant (not VARIETY- which is a taxonomic term ) of the typical species *Butea monosperma* var *monosperma.*
