Tree's sporting the summer look #12 of 15 | ID request 12Apr2010AR02 Regional name -Aat Maddi (Telugu)Amidst the dry river stream malli-eeru, Mamundur forest, AP /* As we trekked in the thick of the Mamundur forest, we came across some very interesting tree species. One of them rested in the midst of a river stream gone dry in summer. “Aat Maddi” said our guide when we asked him to identify it for us. Wonder how these trees withstand the gushing river floods during monsoons.
Probably Muttati in Karnataka and Hogenakal on the Tamilnadu-Karnataka border is the best place to see trees like the Aat Maddi. I suppose Terminalia arjuna, grows quite tall and are found in good numbers in the turbulent Cauvery river. We watched a number of such trees amidst the river during our drive for more than 10 kms (Feb 2010). And most importantly, these gigiantic trees are untouched by human hands. At Hogenakkal, while hitching a ride on the coracle, the boatman would often take us around these trees! */ Date/Time-27 Mar 2010, 08:44 AM Location- Place, Altitude, GPS-Mamundur, Andhra Pradesh, In the mid of the dry river stream - Malli eeru Habitat- Garden/ Urban/ Wild/ Type-Wild, Eastern ghats Plant Habit- Tree/ Shrub/ Climber/ Herb- Tree Height/Length-approx - ~35 feet Leaves Type/ Shape/ Size- Apex Acuminate, Young leaves, Each Leaflet has 5 leaves, Inflorescence Type/ Size- Flowers Size/ Colour/ Calyx/ Bracts-cm - White Flowers, < 3cm Fruits Type/ Shape/ Size Seeds- No fruits Other Information like Fragrance, Pollinator, Uses etc.- Regards Raghu Send free SMS to your Friends on Mobile from your Yahoo!
