There is a lot of confusion between these species, including in our database. I could not find any difference between the two on net. After deeply studying all posts in efi site along with Biotik <http://www.biotik.org/india/species/i/ixorbrac/ixorbrac_en.html> and Pitchandikulam <http://www.pitchandikulam-herbarium.org/contents/description-flower.php?id=17>, I found the following key differences to separate the two based on photographs: Most important is *buds are globose *in Ixora brachiata and not so in Ixora pavetta. *Leaf base *is attenuate <http://www.biotik.org/india/defs/520_en.html> to cuneate <http://www.biotik.org/india/defs/447_en.html> or acute <http://www.biotik.org/india/defs/4_en.html>, in Ixora brachiata <http://www.biotik.org/india/species/i/ixorbrac/ixorbrac_en.html> and rounded in Ixora pavetta <http://www.pitchandikulam-herbarium.org/contents/description-leaf.php?id=17> . *Leaf apex *is obtuse to subacute in Ixora brachiata <http://www.biotik.org/india/species/i/ixorbrac/ixorbrac_en.html> and is acute to apiculate in Ixora pavetta <http://www.pitchandikulam-herbarium.org/contents/description-leaf.php?id=17> . *Fruits *are reddish when ripe in Ixora brachiata <http://www.biotik.org/india/species/i/ixorbrac/ixorbrac_en.html> and black-coloured when ripe in Ixora pavetta <http://www.pitchandikulam-herbarium.org/contents/description-fruit.php?id=17> . Ixora brachiata is *endemic to Western Ghats *while Ixora pavetta <http://www.pitchandikulam-herbarium.org/contents/ecology-distribution.php?id=17> is *native to India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and is also cultivated*. Based on this I am reviewing all the posts in efi site. -- With regards, J.M.Garg
