Thanks Tanay, Gurucharan ji for the ID Cleome viscosa (Syn: Polanasia viscosa) (Asian Spider flower) & confirmation.
Dinesh ji, Eflora link and http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Asian%20Spider%20Flower.html mentions Cleome viscosa as Nayi Bela [Kannada]. However Nayi bela is not a herb, it is a big tree and translates to Limonia acidissima. The first Kannada to English dictionary by Rev. Ferdinand. Kittel [1894] with 70,000 words mentions "The plant Cleome viscosa with yellow flowers - Gandu naaballi [Kannada] " Most of the scientific names are mentioned here & a good source. http://books.google.co.in/books?id=epPhgMbrmdMC&pg=PA1585&lpg=PA1585&dq=Cleome+viscosa+kannada&source=bl&ots=cQTzmJHD0g&sig=rjlsSIyWYDvA0VQYB9nMSzRuLjY&hl=en&ei=Z5cPTKKFB8W1rAeX982BDw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6&ved=0CCYQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q=Cleome%20viscosa%20&f=false Regards Raghu ________________________________ From: tanay bose <[email protected]> To: raghu ananth <[email protected]> Cc: [email protected] Sent: Wed, 9 June, 2010 6:36:24 PM Subject: Re: [efloraofindia:37815] Plant for ID | 10Jun2010AR01 Dear Raghu ji, This I hope is Cleome viscosa (Syn: Polanasia viscosa).
