I assume that the flowers and fruits are 4-merous. If yes, then the suggested identity is correct. However, as regards the nomenclature, it is found that Chakrabarty & Gangopadhyay in J., Econ. Taxon. Bot. 21: 301. 1997 treated *Combretum albidum *G. Don (1827) and cited *C. ovalifolium *Roxb. ex G. Don (1827) as its synonym. It is now found that Wight & Arn., Prodr. Fl. Ind. Orient. 1: 317. 1834 first united the two species under *C. ovalifolium*, followed by later workers. Hence, as per Art. 11.5 of the Code, the correct name of the plant will be *Combretum ovalifolium *Roxb. ex G.Don. Thank you, Tapas.
