He points to a publication <https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/curt.12050> which is widely recognised, that considers most specimens formerly known as *Passiflora foetida* in the Indian ocean region as *Passiflora vesicaria* var. *vesicaria*.
