Greetings from the Secretariat of the First Indian Biodiversity Congress! As discussed, the preparations of the *First Indian Biodiversity Congress (IBC 2010) and Indian Biodiversity Expo (IBE 2010) *scheduled at the campus of University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram during 27-31 December 2010. IBC 2010 would be the first mega event in India in connection with the International Year of Biodiversity. The associated programmes of IBC 2010, in addition to the National Seminar, include Indian Biodiversity Expo (IBE 2010)* *(27-31 December), Capacity Building Workshops (26-27 December), Civil Society Meet (30th December) and National Photography Competition, thus making it a comprehensive exercise.* *We are happy to inform you that Honourable Minister for Environment and Forests, Government of India, Sri Jairam Ramesh has kindly agreed to deliver the key note address in the inaugural session of the Seminar on 28 December, 2010. * * The focal theme of IBC 2010 is “Biodiversity and Development: Mainstreaming Biodiversity into Policy-Making*” *and there will be a Special Session on “Biodiversity Conservation in Western Ghats-Status, Challenges and Opportunities”. *Sir, you are requested to make an invited presentation in the Theme, * *Biodiversity and local communities**, *where you have greater experience*. * The title of the presentation may be communicated to us at the earliest.
