Dear Friends
It was originally planned to have Lamiaceae Week in July first week, but
after a lot of thinking it has been decided to have Lamiaceae and
Verbenaceae together in this week. This is necessary because traditional
distinction of the two families has changed and nearly 65 percent of genera
formerly placed in Verbenaceae (to name few Clerodendrum, Callicarpa, Vitex
and even Tectona) have now been shifted to Lamiaceae. It would as such be
appropriate to have members of both families in this episode to avoid
confusion of fixing what plant to include and what not to include.
Members are requested to upload both identified (and already uploaded)
and unidentified members of the two families during the week so that the
maximum diversity within India could be displayed.
The subject line for mails concerning these two families during the week
should read "Lamiaceae & Verbenaceae Week: .............(family if
known):........................(binomial or unique ID) from
...............(place)".
Members may also continue to upload plants from other families normally
during the week.
