To add to this, Shrikant ji has not mentioned this. 
But the now extremely popular name 'Abolima' for this plant has been coined by 
Shrikant ji in his book Flowers of Sahyadri.
 
Infact there are several such beautiful names coined by him that are now 
popular.

The name comes from the colour which resembles colour of Crossandra and which 
is known as 'Aboli'. The sc. name could have been abolimoides. Regards,
