Hi, I am trying to gather all the people across India (and the world) interested in Indic OCR under one umbrella. There is the Tesseract-Indic <http://code.google.com/p/tesseractindic> project that has been in existence for the last 1.5 years, but with intermittent activity. To put things in perspective, the Govt. of India has an OCR consortium that has been working to develop an Indic OCR solution for 10 languages for the last 3 years or so. It has yet to produce any tangible results, and they do not intend to release the code ultimately too. In this context, I urge you to join the project to form a critical mass to keep the Free Indic OCR project going at a constant pace. We have made some significant breakthroughs recently and we have a good chance of having a working OCR in the next 6 months or so. Here are the relevant links:
