di Oracle 8i sudah ada fungsi cluster, cuma istilah adalah OPS (Oracle Parallel Server). Konsepnya sama dengan RAC.
Salah satu kelebihan utama RAC dibanding OPS ada di implementasi cache fusion. Di RAC, kalau instance 1 ingin mengubah data yg telah diubah di instance 2, maka data tsb bisa langsung ditransfer melalui interconnect dari instance 2 ke 1.
