Prehospital Treatment of Avulsed Teeth
By Paul Krasner, DDS
http://www.jems.com/jems/exclus05/e0413a.html
With more than 5 million teeth knocked out in the United States each year, the chances are good that you’ve already encountered a few such cases. But did you know how to properly treat and transport those patients and their avulsed teeth? Although treatment of other injuries may be your top priority, EMS providers should be aware of the causes—and preventive measures—related to tooth avulsion to provide the best outcome for their patients. For details click here.

Your Favorite Instructor
Do you have a favorite instructor who taught you a lesson in patient assessment or care that has stayed with you throughout your career? They could have taught you a technique to differentiate between left and right heart failure or a new way to auscultate for lung sounds. Why not pass along those important lessons to your peers, and, at the same time, recognize the instructor or training academy that presented it to you? In celebration of our 25th anniversary, 25 of the best tips will be published in a future issue of JEMS. If you want, you can also send us a photograph of those who taught you these assessment tips or techniques. Send us information on your favorite instructor at [EMAIL PROTECTED].

JEMS Grant

JEMS wants to help you achieve your dreams!

Did you know JEMS sponsors two award programs?

The JEMS EMS Research Grant awards $1500 to an individual or agency for the completion of a research project that studies the impact on care that results from having two paramedics on each ALS call vs. the use of only one paramedic. For more project specifications and submission deadlines, please click here.
The JEMS/Elsevier Nursing Scholarship provides one scholarship to prehospital personnel (EMT or EMT-Paramedic) who want to pursue a nursing degree. The winner will receive $5,000 to pursue a nursing degree, as well as a one year ENA membership. For more information about the 2005 scholarship, please visit www.ena.org/foundation/grants or call the Foundation at: 800-900-9659 ext. 4100.
