Working Together for Children
with Speech, Language and
Communication Difficulties
This workshop aims to provide a better understanding for those who work with children with speech, language and/or communication difficulties (not only those with Autism Spectrum Disorder). It will benefit professionals teachers, therapist, graduate or undergraduate students who seek to understand children with special needs.
Facilitators:
Prof. Carol Miller
(An Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom and a prominent speech and language therapist).
Dr. Kartini Ahmad
(An Associate Professor and the Founding Head of the Speech Science Program in the department of Audiology & Speech at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur).
Areas that the workshop aim to cover:
¡ What do we mean by speech, language and communication?
¡ Why are they important? Are there links between language and learning?
¡ Looking at speech, language and communication needs of children identifying needs, identifying causes and making provision
¡ Parents and practitioners working together to support childrens needs
¡ Early amplification and proper management of hearing impairment if mainstreaming education is to be followed
