Police Collect 144 Weapons

Dili, E Timor, June 8 (ANTARA) - The East Timor police has
collected 144 weapons, including fire arms, from pro-
integration groups during several police operations in this
area.

Police spokesman Capt. Widodo DS said here Tuesday that the
fire arms comprised 26 guns, 25 hand-made guns, 85 sharp
weapons, and five grenades.

He said the pro-integration groups have handed over 29 fire
arms and 19 hand-made guns, while local police operations have
collected five grenades, and 82 sharp weapons.

The weapons-search operation was conducted by local police
officers from April 21 until June 3 in several districts like
Liquisa, Ermera and Lautem.

"Meanwhile, several weapons have been handed over by
integrationist groups from Msanufahi, Ainaro, Liquisa and
Ermera," he said.

So far, the police has not yet received weapons from
independence groups.

He said illegal weapons owners broke law No. 12/1951. "The
owners will be processed in their local police office," he
said.
