Timor: Delegations Agree To Accept Vote Results Jakarta, Jun 28 (ANTARA) - Delegations of both pro-and anti- integrationist groups participating in the Dare II dialogue and reconciliation conference have expressed their support for a peaceful reconciliation process and acceptance of the vote results on self determination for East Timor. Nobel laureate Bishop Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo, opening the talk here on Monday, said the meeting is aimed at bringing the East Timorese to an attitude of listening to each other and respecting the result of direct balloting. "Please avoid personal or group problems which could lead to a conflict of interest in each party," Belo said. An assistant of Jamsheed Marker - the UN Special envoy for East Timor--, Tamrat Samuel, said the authority should also take note of human factors involved in the popular consultation, so both pro- and anti-integrationist groups can accept the result of the ballot. "It is in the hands of the East Timorese, although it can not be separated from the UN's as well as Indonesia's responsibility not to take sides," Samuel said. Meanwhile, the head of the Portuguese Interest Section, Anna Gomes, who represents the Portugal goverment, said the country has a commitment to accept whatever the result is of the direct ballot. Indonesian Ambassador At Large, FX Lopes da Cruz, representing the pro-integrationist group, said if both parties could not find a real solution for the territory, it will harm the East Timorese in the future. "We have to understand each other, and reconciliate for peace," da Cruz said. Jailed rebel leader, Jose Alexandre "Xanana" Gusmao, who represents the anti-integrationist group, he asked all East Timorese to change the conflict into a new and better situation for peace in the future. The second session of Dare II talks is attended by 60 participants from both groups, the US ambassador J Stapleton Roy, Australian ambassador John McCharty, some representatives from the European Union, Japan, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom.
