E Timor: Falintil Attacks Pro-Integrationst, Kills One

Liquisa,E.Timor, July 4 (ANTARA)-The military wing of anti-
integration group Fretilin, Falintil, reportedly attacked a number
of pro-integrationists of the Red-White Iron (BMP) group here
saturday, shooting one to death and two others to injury.

East Timor police spokesperson, Capt. Widodo, told reporters here
On Sunday that the attack had killed Paulda Costa, 40, and
injured Hermenio Sildo, 45, and Agusto Sarmento, 30. The wounded
victims have been admitted in a hospital here.

Widodo said the incident occured on Saturday (3/7) at about 12:30
p.m.local time at Loedaha village in Liquisa subdistrict, about
45 kilometers east of Dili, the capital of East Timor province.

According to him, a group of BMP members were passing by the
village when suddenly they were blocked by Falintil group who then
shot the-integrationist with firearmes.

Two victims, Sildo and Sarmento, were shot at their flank and
temples respectively, but succesfully they could run away from the
location and immediately reported the incident to local police.

Another victims, according to Sildo and Sarmento, was dead on the
spot but the police could not find the body when they arrived at
the location.

"The body was possibly brought by the Falintil group to the
forest, "Widodo said, adding that a number of personnel from the
police mobil brigade deployed at Liquisa police station and
supported by Dili police officers were searching for the body.

Based on examination held on the location, detective officers of
The Dili police, Major Carlo Tewu and Major Joko, said that, in
its attack, the Falintil group had used firearmes left by former
Portuguese colonialist, including an M 16.

East Timor was a colony of Portugal for more than 400 years until
it integrated with the Unitary State of Indonesia in 1976, a year
after its former colonizer abandoned the region.

The detectives also reported that after the attack, the Falintil
group pushed a blue "Kijang" pick-up into a 40-meter-deep ravine.
The pick-up had been damaged before being pushed into the ravine.
