E.Timor: UN Civilian Police Questioned For Hoisting Australian
Flag

Dili, E. Timor, July 12 (ANTARA) - The provincial police have
quetioned a member of the UN civilian police who last week hoisted
the Australian flag in the house where he was staying in Bobonaro
district, 138 km west of here.

Police head for information, Captain Widodo D.S, said here Monday
that the UN civilian police, identified as David Sawage, is an
Australian and was assigned in Bobonaro for the implementation of
the autonomy ballot to be held in East Timor in August.

He said the Australian flag remained at the antenna of the house
where Sawage was staying, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. last Thursday.

He said that when platoon commander of the Mobile Brigade, Lt
Raintansah, and other witnesses saw the flag, they immediately
contact the liaison officers from Malaysia and Australia.

"Upon Raintansah's orders, the liaison officers lowered the flag.
Securiry officer then came to the scene, took photographs and
coordinated with the liaison officers to question the suspect," he
said.

He said Sawage was questioned in accordance with the law.
