---------------------------------------------------------- Visit Indonesia Daily News Online HomePage: http://www.indo-news.com/ Please Visit Our Sponsor http://www.indo-news.com/cgi-bin/ads1 ---------------------------------------------------------- Dear Sir/Madam: The International Forum for Aceh (IFA) in conjunction with the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) will organize a conference on Aceh with a theme: �Fifty our Years Within Indonesia,� on July 24, 1999 to be held at YMCA, Sathron Tai, Bangkok, Thailand. The conference will be the third of such conference organized by IFA in its attempt to introduce the crucial problem faced by the people of Aceh to the international community. The problems are becoming more complicated from day by day starting fifty-four years ago. The problems was continuously passed to two totalitarian Indonesian regimes and even up to the present time which is supposed to be under the so called "reformist" government. None of these regimes have seriously to find a workable solutions to the real conflict in Aceh. When Military Operation supposed to be ended in 1998, more than 100,000 refugees have fled or fleeing Indonesian Special Forces / Special Police operation in Aceh today. In the refugee camps many have died because of sickness and lack of food. Recently, a couple of refugee camps have been raided by Special Military Police (PPRM). Since January this year, hundreds have been killed, arrested and tortured. More than 150 schools as well as many civilian homes have been burnt, and public transportation services has also been severed. Not a single day pass without deaths of civilians whether because of the killing, sickness and starvation. This ASEAN human tragedy and worsening humanrights abuses and growing violence escalations in the region must be ended. The conference is an urgent dialog in ending the continous and growing escalations, and worsening humanrights abuse in Aceh today. IFA have invited all groups of Acehese society as well as humanrights activist to come for a meaningful dialog toward peaceful solution(s). Peaceful and democratic solution is the objective of International Forum for Aceh. This conference will also aim to develop a joint action plan of advocacy and campaign among those who are concerned about human rights from human rights organizations, students, NGOs, and individuals in Asia, America, Australia and Europe.
