Suharto not paralyzed: neurologist

JAKARTA, July 23 (AFP) - Former Indonesian president Suharto, hospitalized
after suffering a mild stroke, is not paralayzed, a US-trained neurologist
who visited him Friday said.

"No, he could move both his arms very well," Mahar Mardjono, a former rector
of the University of Indonesia, replied when asked if the 78-year-old former
head of state was partially paralyzed as a result of the stroke he suffered
Tuesday.

"He could shake my hand and said hi to me," Mardjono told AFP at Jakarta's
Pertamina hospital, where Suharto is being treated by a team of doctors.

But Mardjono, who graduated as a neurologist from the University of
California, declined to say whether his visit was a professional one or not.

Suharto's doctors have said they detected a blood clot in Suharto's brain,
but that he would not require surgery. They have also said his speech is
slightly slurred since the stroke Tuesday.

On Thursday, the attorney general's office said it was suspending a
government probe into the wealth allegedly amassed by the former strongman
during his 32 years in power until he was "100 percent recovered."
