KOLOM SUPANGKAT:

ONE CHINA POLICY IS BASED ON "THE RIGHT OF MIGHT"
NOT ON RULE OF (INTERNATIONAL) LAW
AND SO WAS THE COLONIAL DOCTRINE OF "ONE DUTCH INDIES"

I have been writing since the fifties that one China policy is unrealistic.
Of course
not all of them were published by the Indonesian media, even now after the
Reform-
ation because of the official One China Policy of the Indonesian government.

As a former independence fighter I am always inclined to support the
independence
struggle either in colonial wars or in civil wars, eventhough the doctrine of
the Dutch colonial "One Dutch Indies policy" and then inherited and
perpetuated
by the independent Republic of Indonesia as "One Indonesia Policy" (Satu Nusa
Satu Bangsa Satu Negara).

However, "the One Dutch Colonial Empire Policy" as the root of the One
Indonesia
Policy was never realistic, it was good at the time being because we were
united
against the Dutch colonial policy for independence. So the motive is rather
expediency rather than realistic.

And since the One China Policy served best our own interests, the interest to
keep Indonesia as one country, one nation, they abide by it. But it was
neither
scientific nor realistic.

Indonesia consists of what the Dutch scientists called the Big Sunda Islands
and
the Small Sunda Islands, plus the Southeast Islands, the West New Guinea,
plus about 15.000 islets and atolls.
So it is only expedient to keep us together in one country and state one
nation.
The Ernest Renan doctrine of a nation had been undermined by the corrupt and
bad practises of the Indonesia government officials who has been siphoing the
wealth of the provinces and suppressing the human rights of their people like
in
the cases of West Irian, Aceh, East Timor, Kalimantan and Sumatera.

The One China Policy was based on "The rIght of might" far away from Human
Rights, Democracy, Rule of (International) Law..
Mao Xe Dong was absolutely victorious over Chiang Kai-
shek who fled to Taiwan, he freed and then united the China whole continent.

But it is a historical fact the Mao regime never conquered Chiang and Taiwan,
the Communist regime never set a foot in Taiwan. It is undeniably true in
history
that the Taiwan Island belonged to colonial China exactly like most Indonesian
Islands and Aceh struggling for independence now which belong to the Dutch
Indies then and to Indonesia.

Of course this is a painful historical fact for both mainland China and
Indonesia,
but it is true, nobody could ever deny it.

It would be another matter whether I do or do not support the independence of
Taiwan and the Indonesian provinces because that is in the area of politics I
tried
to avoid for now.
