LONDON -- Indonesia's president B.J. Habibie has stated if the oil and gas
bill is passed into law, the government should not form a new state company
to replace the state oil and gas company, PT Pertamina, according to Antara
news agency, monitored Saturday.

Quoting the head of state, Mines and Energy Minister Kuntoro Mangkusobroto
said Saturday the government should not form a managing body to take over the
governmental functions of Pertamina.

Habibie summoned Kuntoro, finance minister Bambang Subianto, minister for the
state enterprises Tanri Abeng, and Pertamina general director Martiono
Hadianto to report on the latest development in the deliberation of the oil
and gas bill at the House of Representatives (DPR), said the report.

If the bill is passed into law, Pertamina will only be tasked to find oil,
while the transportation of oil will be managed by the Communications
Ministry, and the oil and gas refining process will be handled by the
Industry and Trade Ministry, said the report.
