" Regarding the increasing intimidation and terrorist activities by unidentified armed groups in Aceh, the government will pay serious attention, and will tolerate separatism idea in this Union State of Indonesia," said Wayan Karya, the Security and Political Department spokesman, on the sidelines of a security and political co-ordinating ministers meeting in central Jakarta. He continued that, as Aceh is an integral part of Indonesia, the Government will make sufficient efforts to retain Aceh in the Indonesia region, as had been agreed since the independence declaration. He denied that troops who were sent there are involved in engineering the riots and unrest, to keep the situation in Aceh insecure. As had been reported previously, abductions and violations of human rights were haunting the Acehnese nowadays. Kontras, an Indonesian human rights watchdog, even accused the military of direct involvement in such violations. They said it was typical of the military operations which had been implemented in Aceh, in Military Operation Area (DOM). Wayan Karya said that if there was evidence that the military apparatus was involved directly in the abductions and violence, the public can report it to the authorities. He promised that the government would further investigate any reports. The meeting itself is a periodical meeting between security and political co-ordinating ministers , which always take place on Monday, in the last week of each month.
