Aid : IMF SHOULD NOT INTERVENE IN SETTING UP NEW GOVT, GINANJAR
SAYS

Jakarta, Oct 12 ANTARA) - Vice Chairman of the People's
Concultative Assembly MPR) Ginanjar Kartasasmita said the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) has no right to intervene in the
process of the establishment of the next government, as it is the
internal affair of the Indonesian people.

Responding to a newsman's question on what kind of government the
IMF desired, he stressed that IMF has no authority to play a role
in determining the next Indonesian government.

Speaking on the sidelines of discussion on the codes of ethics of
Indonesian companies, in Jakarta on Tuesday, Ginajar said :
"Everithing depends on us. They can't dictate us."

"In the process of whoever shall be elected net president, they
(IMF) has no rights to intervene," he further said.

Asked if the incumbinent president is elected, the former
coordinating minister for economic, dinancial and industrial
afaairs said : "We have to fully accept that."

Foreign institutions should accept the new government of
Indonesia. They have no rights tho dictate us, he said.

Technical team

Commenting on the arrival of an IMF techinal team in Indonesia for
a series of meetings with economists and political parties this
week, Ginajar said they are trying to learn most appropriate ays
of developing the conomy in Indonesia.

"The technical team is not scheduled to meet government
authrities.Theywant to maintain amomentumfor
economicrestoration to make their programs rum unhampered at the
time a new government if formed," he said.

According to him, what the IMF team is doing is good, as they are
ready to wait untill the formation of new cabinet.

"I Think it is natural, as the current government is no longer in
a position to make new commitments," he said. Ginanjar also said
that the leader of IMF technical team , Anoop Singh, has paid a
courtesy call on him on Monday evening.
