The Nippon TV reporters were covering the distribution of international aid among refugees in border areas between East Nusa Tenggara and East Timor. "We have also heard that the United Nations Hihg Commisioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is paying more attention to refugees wishing to return to East Timor rather than to those wishing to stay because most of latter belong to the pro-autonomy group," Suzuki, one of four Japanese reporters visiting East Nusa Tenggara since last week, said here Saturday. Speaking Indonesian fluently, Suzuki said that it seemed that the international community was paying more attention to the pro- independence group. From their field monitoring, the Japanese journalists also said that they had never met any militiamen touting a gun as reported in various international media publications. Suzuki said that he and his three colleagues were dissapointed with UNHCR in Kupang and Atambua because while they were in Belu district, they did not see any aid distribution. He added, however, that they saw UN aid piling up in the UNHCR warehouse in Atambua. "Only when we returned here did we come across a UNHCR car," he said.
