Timor militia to "eat hearts" of Australia troops
ATAMBUA, Indonesia, Sept 15 (Reuters) - An East Timorese
anti-independence militia said on Wednesday it would eat the hearts of
Australians and anyone else included in a U.N. force.
"The PPI (Command of the Pro-Integration Struggle) will eat the hearts
of those that come to East Timor," PPI leader Filomeno Kornai told
reporters in the border town of Atambua.
"We reject a peacekeeping force from Australia and those countries
which have betrayed the referendum of August 30."
East Timorese voted overwhelmingly for independence from Indonesia in
a U.N.-run ballot on August 30, since when there has been a wave of
brutality in which thousands have been killed by the militias and
elements of the armed forces.
The U.N. Security Council was working on a resolution authorising an
international force to restore law and order in East Timor, most
probably to be spearheaded by Australia. REUTERS
