Dear Graham
I agree with your sentiments especially:

>It is quiet easy to see that deputy sheriff John Howard is marching to

Regarding visiting Indonesia - I have felt a strong desire to visit myself
all this year, I may make it over late this year or early next year-
Being Indonesian -speaking and knowing the country I feel reasonably
confident about visiting even though I am Australian -
as you are an Anglo-Asian I would say you would be less noticable than white
Australians -
I was just talking with a friend today and saying - in order to create
understanding it is really important for Indonesian people in Australia to
speak out and express how they feel about the current situation as many
groups are starting to do by organising benefits for East Timor and making
contact with East Timorese and Australian organisations.
Its also important for there to be Australian people in Indonesia with the
confidence to bring a message of love and peace to Indonesia at this time.
My feeling of love for Indonesia is so strong that I feel I would be able to
communicate this to people I meet, which even in a small way might
counteract the negative effects of so much media hype and manipulation.
For you It would also be really great ot have people that you know with whom
to make contact when you arrive- maybe some of our Indoz - net friends in
Jakarta might be willing to welcome you!!- or connect you with friends
there-
How about it -guys! (and ladies)
Best wishes
Judy
