Howdy,

I didn't think afsd showed up in the ps -aux on a sun box...
I thought it showed up as a nameless process... This sounds like
afs is already started... sort of "can't mount on /afs 'cause it's
already taken" message.

It would look like (from one of my 4.1.3 systems):

root 682 0.0 0.0 72 0 ? IW 11:29 0:04 cron
root 214 0.0 0.0 176 0 ? D 11:24 0:00
root 215 0.0 0.0 176 0 ? D 11:24 0:00
root 216 0.0 0.0 176 0 ? D 11:24 0:00
root 217 0.0 0.0 176 0 ? D 11:24 0:00
root 218 0.0 0.0 176 0 ? D 11:24 0:00
root 213 0.0 0.0 176 0 ? D 11:24 0:00
root 292 0.0 0.3 128 344 ? S 11:25 0:12 /usr/etc/amd

The processes in 'D'isk wait are my afsd's...
I'd check your rc files and see if you're trying to start afsd
twice.
