I ran into the same error message several times per day as soon as I
installed patch 7: 'server paused or being restarted'.

The only consistent observation that I could make was that this happened
every time while crossing a .readonly volume which is released several
times per day at our site. A tracs report has been opened at Transarc for
this problem, with lots of traces sent in the last few weeks.

In order to get going again, seomtimes a stop/restart of the AFS service
would help, but mostly it was 'reboot'. AFS would work for an hour or so and
then freeze on that directory - the frequent releases still sound like a
plausible candidate.

HOWEVER, I got rid of it: I ran patch-uninstall (which uninstalled patch
7), the ran it again (it un-installed patch 6), then re-installed patch 7
and finally rebooted!

Haven't seen the problem since I did this 3 days ago - still crossing
fingers. Too bad for further problem investigation - couldn't afford to
leave the machine around useless.
