When salvaging large partitions on AIX (actually only up to the max
limit - 2^31), salvager would lose track of the proper number of inodes.
SalvageLog reports lots of "can't read block" errors and starts filling
up /usr/afs/logs.

A fix is available. The defect is #4046:AIX salvager fails on large
partitions.Contact your AFS Product Support Rep if you are creating maximum partitions
on AIX and are in need of this fix.

Upon further reflection, it seems more likely that the problem is related
to using an absolutely maximum size filesystem. We have several filesystems
of this size:

/dev/lv02 2048000 479704 76% 22752 4% /vicepc
which have had no problems. Both of the filesystems of this size:
/dev/lv04 2097152 1747748 16% 17840 3% /vicepd
have been roached within weeks of their creation.
Whether this is a problem with AFS or with AIX is still to be resolved.
