Yes, it works like you describe on my linux boxes. But on a solaris 8 (intel) I have problems with it. Probably more due to local config than anything else. Plain su root on the solaris box gives and root path is too short. Doesn't know about cvs binary. Su with the - to get a full path and cvs doesn't allow it.
