You're confused. You used 'ed' with diff3 _instead_ of using 'patch' with diff3. Patch is better than ed because it can do context matching (and of course it can better handle multi-hunk diffs and does backup file management, saves rejected hunks, etc., etc., etc.,) -- Greg A.
