Hi,

as I am on a slow dial-up connection charged by the minute, I have
become interested in using anonymous CVS to get diffs to the source code
for a number of projects. I have found out that apparently this can be
done with the rdiff command. What I have not yet figured out is how to
find out which tags exist.

One idea I had was to get the status for the file ChangeLog which
probably exists in most repositories. But either I have done something
wrong or what I think is more likely is that "status -v ChangeLog" will
not work unless I have a local working directory of CVS project files
which I do not.

Next thing I tried was the history command and I think, this is probably
the right one. But issuing a "history -T" or "history -x T" returns "No
records selected".

How can I get the necessary information of which tags are available?
Just to prevent misunderstandings, I have used for example "cvs -z3
-d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/jgloss history -T
jgloss" not just above cvs commands. TIA.

Oh, while I am with the experts ;-), just another question. Is it
possible to make a fully working CVS working directory and thus save the
download for a complete initial checkout by importing a source tarball
in a certain fashion? I guess this is not the case but wanted to ask
nonetheless.

Best

Rolf
