Well, as usual you got off on the wrong track right from the start again. What part of "RCS Compatible" have you misunderstood this time? > CVS has a notoriously poor diff and merge capability. Well, that seems to depend entirely on your point of view and your perpensity to try to use the wrong (or at least the least suitable) tool for the job. I and no doubt millions of other people have been incredibly satisfied with the extremely wide applicability of the unix diff and merge algorithms. It's almost a miracle that they work so well for such a variety of different kinds of text files -- or maybe it's just an indication of how well designed they are for dealing with the vast majority of forms of representation of human-readable information. Of course you don't have to like them, but you do have to accept that they are integral to RCS and thus integral to CVS. Go away and go play with xdelta and friends if you want. -- Greg A.
