You need to make sure they are of type binary, either when importing
or later with the admin command. Once this is fixed you need to check
if the files in the repository are ok. As they are probably not you need
to commit working versions. After then the checkout should work fine.

Please search in the archives, look for "binary files", this has come
up many times.

You already got an answer that told you to make sure that the file
type is binary. If you didn't understand this answer (it might be a bit
difficult for cvs-newbies) you should ask a more specific question
e.g. how to change the file type to binary or whatever.

Please read the mails you get.

Anyway, look into the manual, there's a whole section (9) about
binary files.
