Actually, we don't usually have automated tests for the stuff in contrib, though I've thought before it might be a good idea. Peter, if you'd like to contribute these programs in the form of a patch, with automated tests only if you have time, <http://savannah.nongnu.org/patch/?group=cvs> would be a good place to start.
