As the saying goes, one experiment is worth 1,000 expert opinions.

Rather than answer that question, I will encourage you to set up a
section of your repository reserved for experimentation, for example
$CVSROOT/cvs-test. In that directory, create a file, populate a branch,
and lock the tip of the branch. Examine the results using 'cvs log'.
Experiment - you'll learn a lot more than simply asking questions. And
you'll get answers a lot sooner ;=)
