Access old tag names beginning with number?

Hi,

I hope I am in the right forum. I would like to know how to access old tag 
names that begin with a number instead of a letter. CVS gives me an error 
such as the following:
cvs [tag aborted]: tag '2002_09_23' must start with a letter
