Newbie install question

Hello,
I am installing the binary gzip file cvs-1.11.23-SUN.bin.gz. After unzipping,
we are left with the file cvs-1.11.23-SUN.bin. Everywhere I have looked, the
binary file that we should be running is specified as "cvs". Yet if we run the
cvs-1.11.23-SUN.bin file, it behaves as though it is the executable, listing the
run-time arguments and so on. Is it simply a matter of renaming to "cvs" and
moving it to the appropriate install directory?
