Hi First an introduction: I want to set up a small box running a complete mail system. Mostly for testing purposes, but also to gather all my various E-mail addresses in one place. The box is running Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 with some packages from testing (next version of Debian 2.3). I plan to use fetchmail (5.3.3) to empty my 5 different mailboxes, exim (3.12) for SMTP and Cyrus for IMAP. Unfortunately, Debian packaging is a little behind the developers as the current version of Cyrus is 1.5.19. The idea is then to move all my existing archived mail to IMAP folders. The problem: Everything has worked seamlessly prior to smoketesting. I RTFM and added the exim hitch from the FAQ and was able to fetch mail and log into Cyrus from a different box. I then tried to move messages from local folders to IMAP folders and while some messages could be moved, others were rejected with the error 'invalid headers'. I found something similar in the mailing list archives, but that was a few years ago. The problem was then thought to be related to either 8 bit chars in headers or badly formed headers due to MUA bugs. The proposed fix was to remove a check for bad headers in message.c (or something like that), with possibly bad consequences. I would like to know if this problem has been fixed in the new versions. I call it a problem because I cannot use Cyrus if it unexpectedly rejects some of my mails. I also use and correspond with people who use 8 bit character sets (Icelandic and Danish), so rejecting badly formed 8 bit headers is not acceptable (since some people use shitty MUAs). I tried it with Mozilla Messenger (0.8) and Outlook Express (5.0). Other than this I like what I see in Cyrus and I would like to thank the developers for making it available as free software. Thanks in advance.
