UFS is an utter nightmare, particularly with an IMAP load. I've never run cyrus in particular on it, but knowing how it handles directories with lots of small files... Well, let's just say it's like ext2/3 without the horsepower. Veritas, I hear, is supposed to be quite good at these things, but again, I haven't seen it personally.
