A couple of times this week, lmtpproxyd has stopped running. I don't see anything in logs about why

Usually there will be 8 of them running (same as the number of sendmail processes)

  ps -ef | grep lmtppr
cyrus 5579 21975 0 14:51 ? 00:00:02 lmtpproxyd
cyrus 7085 21975 0 14:57 ? 00:00:01 lmtpproxyd
cyrus 7341 21975 0 14:58 ? 00:00:00 lmtpproxyd
cyrus 9363 21975 0 15:07 ? 00:00:00 lmtpproxyd
cyrus 11689 21975 0 15:19 ? 00:00:00 lmtpproxyd
cyrus 12803 21975 0 15:25 ? 00:00:00 lmtpproxyd
cyrus 12902 21975 0 15:26 ? 00:00:00 lmtpproxyd
cyrus 14328 21975 0 15:33 ? 00:00:00 lmtpproxyd
root 14527 22772 0 15:35 pts/2 00:00:00 grep lmtppr

but then suddenly, there will be no lmtp processes and then the number of sendmail processes skyrockets (~7,000).

anyone know why lmtpproxyd dissapears?
