I wrote a small shell script to handle this, because there wasn't a trivial mechanism to wire up Gnus and the desktop environment: #!/bin/sh # Send a 'mailto:' link into my mail client... exec gnuclient -batch -eval \ "(compose-mail-other-frame \"$1\" \"$2\" nil nil '((delete-frame)))" The system was configured to pass the 'to' address as argument one, and the 'subject' as argument two — Opera supported the later, but KDE didn't. You might want to use a different interface; I had that create and destroy a frame so that it behaved the way I liked.
