Desktop Settings - Do you allow changes to  Backgrouds, shortcuts on the desktop, screen savers, etc
NO  - Faculty is not allowed to make any of these changes

Do you allow saving to the local hard drive, or restrict saving to the network only
NO - Saving is to network drives only for a couple reasons. First data backup...if they loose data (and they do) I can get it back. Second if I need to switch out or reimage a computer I don't have to waste time with local data

How about disk space quotas - how much do you allow a user to store on the network
? - In the past we limited students to 20MB and staff 100MB. We have increased our storage capacity and have not enforced quotas, but will if it gets out of hand.

Use of e-mail programs - do you have district supported programs, or can they use anything they want
We use outlook so all staff either use the the outlook client or outlook web access.

Installing programs on the machine - both district-supported and personal software
NO - Faculty is not allowed to install programs on their own. Several reasons, licensing, security, imaging

Do you allow computers to be used without any connection to the network
All teachers have a production computer that is attached to the network. As we retire computers teacher may ask for additional computers as stand alones, not connected to the network for skill and drill type usage.

Do you allow people to connect personal peripherals to the computer that require software - digital cameras, zip drives, cd-burners, scanners, etc...
NO - We provide the equipment if need to do school work

In what method do you suggest people move data from school to home for work - usb flash keys, floppy, e-mail
We suggest email and are starting to look at usb key drives

Sorry for all of the questions.  We are trying to get some baseline data for security that other schools are using.  If you would help us out, I would appreciate it.  I would be happy to compile all of the data and return it to the list, should there be any interest for that.  Again, thanks for any help!!!  Have a great weekend!!!
