Regarding the name of the class: the name is not as important as the way your school codes the class into the BEDS Curriculum report. The DE now links BEDS to Teacher Licensure. At our site visit this year, we were told that to have a class called Mass Media (our yearbook/newspaper class) for English credit, the teacher had to be licensed in Journalism. Our BEDS indicates accurately what the course is. I know we used to be able to change the name of a course to make it OK under a teacher's license (such as calling Speech class "Oral Communication" for a teacher licensed in English but not Speech) but that is not possible any more.
