Title: Announcement: Products Selected for Iowa AEA Online for Fall 2006 – Spring 2009

Harriet and Scott:

How many of the sites on the list can be archived locally? I’m reaching the point, actually a good point, where the online access is becoming a problem with band width, especially when several classes are doing research at once. Unitedstreaming was one that could be archived locally. I’m wondering if there are any others.

Thanks,

George

Hello,

The following announcement is GREAT news:  In addition to the current databases available on Iowa AEA Online, one additional resource will be added late this spring:  SIRS Researcher.

(If you currently have a subscription to SIRS Researcher, do NOT renew. )

More information will be coming later, but for now, simply enjoy the good news.

Announcement:
Products Selected for Iowa AEA Online for Fall 2006 – Spring 2009

After careful consideration, Iowa AEA Online is pleased to announce that all the current online resources will continue to be provided. SIRS Researcher is being added to the offerings. These resources will be provided for all accredited PreK-12 schools through June 2009.

The following products have been selected for teachers and students in accredited PreK-12 schools:

•    AccuWeather
•    AP Multimedia Archive
•    Atomic Learning
•    Clipart.com School Edition
•    EBSCOhost
•    SIRS Researcher
•    World Book Online with Research Libraries
•    unitedstreaming

Selection Process
Companies were sent an invitation to submit a Request for Proposal (RFP) based upon the Iowa AEA Online selection committee’s decision to offer a specific range of reference products.   The committee considered input provided by a survey of school library media specialists and a statewide survey of teachers on the products currently offered by Iowa AEA Online.

Decisions were also based on published reviews, the professional knowledge of the selection committee and their familiarity with the needs of students and educators.  The selection committee went through an intensive process of reviewing and comparing products in order to best meet the needs of Iowa schools.

Products were evaluated with a number of criteria taken into consideration including product mix, competitive pricing, capacity to provide services statewide, past performance, quality of product, appropriateness of product content to PreK-12 curriculum, ease of use, training/marketing/support materials, reporting features, and interface design. Rubrics were utilized during the evaluation of products.

The selection of products offered through Iowa AEA Online is a result of a collaborative effort with the State Library of Iowa. EBSCOhost is offered through the State Library to every citizen of Iowa.  Public libraries also provide access for those students that may not have home Internet access. Committee members include Deanna Etherington (AEA 13), Norma Thiese (AEA 1), Cheryl Carruthers (AEA 267), Arletta Dawson (AEA 11), Deb Crane (AEA 10), Jerry Cochrane (AEA 10), Judy Jones (State Library), Barb Shultz (North Central Library Service Area), and Harriet Adams (AEA 8).  All committee members encourage librarians and other educators to make suggestions and provide feedback regarding the product selection as we strive to continually improve Iowa AEA Online.
