I use Cetus WordPad as a replacement for Wordpad. Search for it; it's no
longer supported but the final version works a lot better than wordpad.
As far as backgrouds and being able to place images where you want just by
clicking anywhere in your document, Ms Word 2000 just got this feature --
WordPerfect has had this feature for years; but I do not know if works the
way you want with the rtf format
I believe .rtf documents have some restrictions on what you can to with
it. Cetus WordPad or sometimes called CWordPad has the ability to make
itself the default for .rtf, doc, txt, wri. If you have Word Leave off the
.doc. Make cetus the default for rtf and wri. It also has a spellchecker.
I have a small demo on a disk I can compile, make changes, etc. if you tell
me what you want. Making it to insert backgrounds and images anywhere you
click would be a major undertaking though.
