combat life-threatening illnesses by linking millions of
PCs like yours into what we predict to be the largest
and fastest computing resource in history. This "virtual
supercomputer" uses peer-to-peer technology to make
unprecedented amounts of processing power available to
medical researchers to accelerate the development of
improved treatments and drugs that could potentially
cure diseases.
You can take part in this ground-breaking Internet-based
collaborative medical research project by lending your PC's
unused resources to the greater good. There's no cost to
download and run the program and there's no noticeable
impact on your computer's performance, because the program
takes advantage of the processing power you're not using
at the time

As of today 473,259 people are donated 744,642 devices and
that has given 197,395,604 computing hours towards the cure
for cancer.
Each individual computer analyzes a few molecules and then
sends the results back over the Internet for further
research. The goal is to enlist enough volunteers to
provide very rich and thorough results to the University
of Oxford for further research. This project is anticipated
to be the largest computational chemistry project ever
undertaken and represents a genuine hope to find a better
way to fight cancer.

I have it running now and it works fine with a very cool interface, have
not yet tested the DCC encrypted chat function as of yet.

For you folks on 56k or slower dial-up connections, and
using Internet Explorer 4 or greater, here's a way to
dramatically speed up your Internet surfing speed, and it's
free.
Load IE, and click on Tools | Internet Options.
In the Temporary Internet Files frame, click the Settings
button.
Drag the Amount of Disk Space to Use slider all the way to
the right.
Click OK.
Click OK again.
Now surf for a week or so, and watch your overall performance
perk up -- to the point where virtually all of your favorite
sites appear to come up instantly.
New sites will be slow the first time you hit them, but they
too will speed up with each subsequent visit.
Enjoy irritating your cable modem and DSL friends by demoing
your fast little 56k $7/mo. connection.
Try it. Beef up your Internet cache (aka Temporary Internet
Files), stick with that setting for a week or so, and watch
what happens.
